Moan miss you with heat.

It wanted to. Really it did. But it didn't know how, so it did what it always did. Fire it on. A surge came through, the correct motions were made. It all seemed so uncertain. No matter though, now that it was in its element, it resonated. A dog in the alley awoke. Everyone awoke. Most saw it only as a dream. But it was all there.

Nothing could stop the fire. Nothing. It shot through like a comet.

I have been really slow to update my blog recently. I've been wanting to make an update with details about my trip to Sweden but just haven't gotten around to it. But here we are, I'm finally getting on the ball!

I have been in Lund, Sweden for the past three weeks. I'm studying at Lund University, specifically at the Lunds tekniska högskola (Lund Institute of Technology).

Lund is a great town, in a way quite similar to Champaign, IL because the university runs the town. Basically it is a student city. Everybody's a student. As a town, Lund is quite traditional: a cathedral at the center of the city with cobblestone streets all around. All the streets are quite convoluted & don't look like a modern city's gridded streets which is a little confusing sometimes.

Classes started out this week and they've been great so far. Everything is so much more relaxed here than back at Illinois. For example, every class is listed to start on the hour (e.g. 10 AM) but by university regulation the class can't start until quarter past the hour (e.g. 10:15 AM). The environment in the classes is great; all the professors are really helpful and friendly. Class size is also usually quite small compared to our huge lecture classes at U of I.

Since I've been here, I've also taken a two week crash course in swedish language but I really don't know how much I know. I can say basic things like thanks, hello, my name is and so on. It's better than not knowing anything at all I suppose.

Expect more detailed reports soon. I'll finish up with some random pictures I've snapped around Lund and the university campus.

Last night, I saw lightning in the distance and since I had nothing better to do I decided to go find a dark enough spot to capture the actual lightning strikes. After many attempts, I got one good shot - this one. Feels so good to get one good shot after repeated failures. yeah.

José González

José González is an artist that really struck something in me from the very first time I heard his singing on a Zero 7 song. The formula is simple really: guitar + a singer-songwriter with minimal beats. Somehow, this simplistic approach works marvellously. In this case, simplicity really is best. His relaxed, calm & clear voice really pulls you into the songs as he sings.

José González is a musician of Argentine origin born in Sweden. In fact, he was born in Gothenburg, Sweden which is known as the birthplace of melodic death metal. However, González sounds nothing like a lot of artists coming out of Gothenburg and that's a great thing here.

The music is melancholy yet mellow. It'll make you feel sad yet lift you up. It's really quite hard to classify. Most of his songs have a lonely feeling but at the same time, they also feel happy & hopeful. His music is by no means upbeat but you'll have the urge to move your body & sing along to a song as it progresses.

González currently has two albums out, In Our Nature & Veneer. Both are amazing, and both share the same approach to music. Some memorable songs include Heartbeats, Crosses, Teardrop, Down the Line ... I might end up listing all songs. :-) Just give him a listen, he deserves it.
